Central venous catheter (CVC) placement is common in critically ill patients for a variety of indications. Thrombocytopenia is also quite common in critically ill patients. Unfortunately, literature and guideline recommendations vary on the threshold for prophylactic platelet transfusion in patients undergoing a procedure.
